The Malpensa Airport is the second-busiest airport in the entire country of Italy. Here’s our guide to the MXP Airport if you’re traveling to or through Milan.

The MXP Airport is the largest airport in both Milan and Northern Italy. With such a big airport, sometimes it’s difficult to know just exactly where everything is located. Is that restaurant you’re interested in landside (the area before security) or airside (the area past security)? And where exactly are the ATMs located? Whether you are traveling to the airport from the city center or simply relaxing in the MXP airport during a layover, it’s a good idea to have a feel for the airport before you arrive. Check out our MXP Airport tips below in order to make the most of your time in the MXP Airport.

Traveling to and from the MXP Airport

MXP Airport Transportation - AssistAnt TravelWhether you are departing or arriving from the MXP Airport, you will need some transportation services to help you get to or from the airport. There are a variety of options, depending on your budget and your location.

Buses

Buses can be more conveniently accessed from Terminal 2 and run nearly round-the-clock from the right-hand side of the Centrale station. However, both terminals do operate buses to Milan Central Station, along with buses to locations such as the Milan Linate Airport, Torino, Sesto, and Orgamo among other locations.

Trains

There are convenient stops by the Malena Express Train at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Trains from the Cadorna, Centrale, and Garibaldi stations travel directly to a station right under Terminal 1, all with commute times approximately under 1 hour.

Deluxe Transportation

If you are interested in a luxury transportation experience, AssistAnt can get you set up with services that will greet you at your gate, and assist you with any arrival procedures (customs, passport controls, collecting your baggage) before arranging you with a driver who can take you anywhere in Milan or to neighboring regions. Luxury cars, charter jets, or helicopters can also be arranged, should you need something faster or more high-end.

Dining Options in the MXP Airport

The MXP Airport has a variety of dining options. However, their hours vary and a lot of them close up pretty early. So, if you are going to be awake overnight, it’s good to have some food handy, unless you can settle for vending machine snacks.

Briciole Bar

Briciole is a cute stop for anyone interested in picking up a quick bite—think sandwiches, coffees, and pastries. It is important to note that the Briciole Bar is the only dining option in the airport that is open 24 hours. Be mindful though that there are two locations in the airport and only the landside location is open 24 hours. The 24-hour location is located at Terminal 1 check-in on the second floor, while the airside location (open 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM) is located on the first floor of Terminal 1.

Chef Market

Thematic kiosks displayed to mimic the banquets of a covered market are the focus at Chef Market. If you’re looking for Italian street food and traditional Italian dishes, this little eatery located on the first floor of Terminal 1 airside.

Inamore

Coffee lovers should head over to Inamore. This cozy spot offers a variety of breakfast, sandwich, and salad options to go with your authentic Italian coffee. It’s located on the first floor of Terminal 1 airside and is open from 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM.

Mu

Mu is a local restaurant chain, specializing in the finest Italian burger. If you’re looking to satisfy a beef craving, check them out on the first floor of Terminal 2 airside.

Deli&Cia

This self-serve station offers a wide range of fresh food, along with hot and cold drinks. If you’re low on time and want a quick bite, you can find them on the ground floor of Terminal 2, open from 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM.

Additional Dining Options

For those who are looking for standard grub, the MXP Airport does offer some familiar dining options as well. You can find a McDonald’s open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on the third floor of Terminal 1 landside and a Burger King open from 5:30 AM to 9:30 PM (5:30 AM to 8:30 PM on Saturdays) on the first floor of Terminal 2 landside. You can also stick to a classic pizza from Pizza Chef, open from 10:00 AM to 9:30 PM on the ground floor of Terminal 1 landside; or from Ciao Antica Pizza Romano, open 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM on the first floor of Terminal 1 airside. If you’re a Starbucks fiend, you can find one open from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM on the first floor of Terminal 1 airside.

Sleeping in the MXP Airport

Sometimes you just need to catch a nap before a flight or during a layover. However, airports rarely have designated nap stations (unfortunately!). Nonetheless, some areas are better than others for catching some Z’s before your flight! Terminal 1 is recommended for sleeping, as there is much more space than Terminal 2, along with more sleepable surfaces. There is a quiet hallway along the side of the escalator near the third-floor food court in Terminal 1. There are 4 Zzzleepandgo capsules located before security in Terminal 1. Each capsule has a bed, outlets for any phone, tablet, or laptop charging you may need to do, along with WiFi and a touch-screen interface if you want to catch a movie before you hit the hay. Of course, the best way to get some interrupted sleep would likely be in a nearby hotel, which can be arranged through a concierge if you want to avoid the hassle of figuring out the logistics.

WiFi

Within the airport, you can access their wifi, which ranges from a speed of 512 Kbps without registration to 2 Mbps if you register on their portal. Both options are free and unlimited, and you are only required to pay a fee if you want to upgrade to an even faster speed.

Monetary Services in the MXP Airport

Whether you are arriving or departing, it’s a good idea to have some cash on hand or at least be aware of your bank status in the meantime. There are a few different locations to take care of these needs in the MXP Airport, both in Terminal 1 and 2.

ATMs

You can find ATMs in both terminals, however, it’s important to note that there may be fees that apply for any transactions you make. It’s always a good idea to notify your bank of any international travel plans so that they don’t grow wary of suspicious out-of-country withdrawals or expenses.

Banks

The Banca Popolare di Sondrio is accessible from Terminal 1 landside, as well as Check-In Area 17 on the second floor. Banca Popolare di Milano is a second option and is located at the Arrivals area on the ground floor of Terminal 2.

Currency Exchanges

You can find currency exchange stations in Terminal 1 on the ground floor at both the Arrival A and B stations, as well as at Departure A and Satellite B2 stations on the first and second floors respectively. You can also locate them on the second floor at Check-In Areas 5, 6, 9, 10, and 17.

Airline Options

If you’re searching for MXP Airport tips, there’s a chance you’ve yet to book your flight. The MXP Airport offers everything from budget airlines to deluxe charter jets, depending on what flight experience you want to have!

Budget Flights

If you’re tight on money or just trying to save your cash to spend in your destination of choice, there are a few budget airlines that travel out of the MXP Airport. Among these are Wizzair, EasyJet, and Vueling.

Standard Flights

If you are looking for a comfortable, yet tried-and-true airline and are traveling between the states and Milan, both American Airlines and United airlines make flights to MXP.
