Don’t Miss These Incredible Sights In Havana!
British novelist, Graham Greene once wrote;
“Anything is possible in Havana.“
Well, we hope this Havana travel guide will help you realize some of those possibilities.
The History Of Havana In A Nutshell
Spanning a total of 728.26 square kilometers, Havana is the largest city by area in the Caribbean region. The city attracts over a million tourists per year and with just a little research, it’s easy to see why.
After Fidel Castro became president in 1959, he created a law that required government permission to buy a new foreign car. This has led to the streets of Cuba being filled with classic ’50s American cars. According to some, the art and music are what make Cuba such a fascinating place. There is no one type of Cuban music, however, you can hear it at any time of day wherever you go. For art, the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana is one of the best.
Of course, for those who love Colonial-era architecture, as any Havana travel guide will tell you, Havana is the place to visit. You’ll see the original exteriors on most, if not all buildings you pass or visit, and many of the landmarks and historical sites were built during the Colonial period.
How To Enjoy The Most Luxurious Vacation In Havana
We at AssistAnt will provide global concierge services that ensure you get the most out of your trip, including airport VIP services for Jose Marti International Airport.
Simply put, no matter where you need to get to, we will provide you with a car (with or without a chauffeur), private jet charter or even a yacht charter. Not to mention, expert advice on local hangouts. For example, if you just want a romantic or calming place to relax at the end of the day, the Malecón, an avenue that runs along the north coast of the city, is known for its sunsets and is near some of the finest hotels in Havana.
The Most Exclusive Places To Stay In Cuba’s Capital
Everyone wants to feel like a celebrity at least once in their life and Hotel Nacional de Cuba is a five-star choice that has hosted many actual celebrities. Opened on December 30th in 1930, the Hotel Nacional has been host to many famous and infamous people throughout its history including Frank Sinatra, Mickey Mantle, and, during the Cuban missile crisis, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara.
Other choices include Santa Isabel, an elegant hotel that has provided splendor and comfort for more than 100 years, but this one is more exclusive than some of the other hotels: it only has 27 rooms available. No matter where you stay, the team at AssistAnt is more than happy to provide global concierge services from almost any country. We know your time is important, so if you feel overwhelmed with preparations, we will make five-star reservations and bookings for you.
The Man Who Loved Cuba
Just a few miles from the capital city in San Francisco de Paula, a humble suburb of Havana, sits the Cuban home of Ernest Hemingway. In the spring of 1939, Hemingway moved into the Hotel Ambos Mundos in Havana while separated from his second wife, Pauline. Martha Gellhorn, his girlfriend at the time (who would become his wife a year later) soon joined him and together they rented Finca Vigia (“Lookout Farm”). July 25, 1960 was the last time Hemingway left Cuba, leaving art and manuscripts in a Havana bank vault and after the Bay of Pigs in 1961, the Finca Vigia was expropriated by the Cuban government along with Hemingway’s collection of “four to six thousand books.”
Nowadays, you can visit the late author’s house any day of the week for just $3 CUC per person. If you don’t want to drive that far, but still want to enjoy Havana in true Hemingway style, you can still visit his two favorite bars: La Floridita and La Bodeguita Del Medio. You can even drink like Hemingway (I don’t mean the amounts he drank, as he apparently still holds the bar’s record for drinking 16 sugar-free double-rum daiquiris in one sitting). Just order a Hemingway Daiquiri or a Papa Doble: 2.5 jiggers of rum, juice from half a grapefruit and two Mexican limes.
